Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant.

In the brain, alcohol releases dopamine in moderate amounts and increases the supply of GABA, the brain’s Valium.

Positive effects of alcohol: anxiety reduction, euphoria, disinhibition, pleasure and sedation.

There are numerous health benefits of drinking in moderation: lowers the risk of developing heart disease, lowers the risk of dying from a heart attack, possibly reduces the risk of strokes, lowers the risk of gall stones and possibly lowers the risk of  diabetes.

Moderate drinking limits: for men, no more than 14 drinks per week and for women, no more than 9 drinks per week.
